The Royal Mail On Spencer (AKA The No Holds Bar) Closes

Hey everyone,

Instead of writing this like a news report, I wanted to write this a bit more personal, as Dave was such a massive assist to us and a huge support on the Australian wrestling scene.

Today was a really sad day, as I walked into the Royal Mail On Spencer to wish its owner Dave well and to buy up some beers, wines and gin as part of his closing down sale.

Today the Royal Mail on Spencer, which also acted as the filming location for our No Holds Bar series, has tragically had to close down. Covid-19 has obviously had a massive impact on a number of industries and business, including the hospitality industry. Sadly the Royal Mail was one such victim.

Dave was, professionally speaking, the dude. I met Dave at MCW’s Brewery Brawl event back in 2019, as he was there to interview a number of us as part of a wrestling podcast that he was a part of, including myself.

We hit it off immediately and I’m glad to say we’ve become excellent friends.

At the time we met, myself and the rest of the Snap Mayor’s team were looking to find a venue to film monthly interviews, and Dave was amazing accommodating to allow us to use The Royal Mail on Spencer as a venue to film interview and other wrestling segments.

And when I say accommodating, I mean accommodating. I’ll be forever grateful that he allowed us to film “The Jurassic Punk” Syd Parker and Caveman Ugg in a bar brawl, which to this day has to be one of the best segments I have helped put together.

God bless you Dave for allowing us to wreck your pub for internet points.

In addition to this, Dave was also willing to help out ‘Deathmatch Downunder’ when they initially launched their no ring shows earlier in 2020, allowing them to film segments and even willing to host a no ring show, though sadly it got cancelled due to Covid. Most recently we managed to film a lot of footage and interviews for Deathmatch Downunder to help promote their proper debut later this month.

To put it simply, Dave is a massive fan of wrestling. His passion and selfless generosity towards the scene here in Victorian is one that simply needs to be applauded, and it saddens me that Covid19 stops us filming shows just as we found out stride.

There we lots of plans and ideas that we all wanted to present with The Royal Mail on Spencer, and sadly these will need to go back to the drawing board for now.

This is Dave. Dave is a legend. Be more like Dave.

Thank you Dave and thank you for helping us out when we needed it. You’ll always be a friend to the Australian wrestling scene.

Obviously with this news, plans for No Holds Bar’s return are currently on hold, but we will have updates when we are able to move forward with filming again.
