MLW has been pursuing a new broadcast deal with Discovery as a means for enhancing the promotions’ revenue through increased rights fees.
Mike Johnson of PWinsider has revealed that MLW’s current arrangements with DAZN and BeIn Sport will remain as is and that the promotion is free to seek additional broadcasting partners.
It appears likely at this stage that if an agreement were reached, MLW would be set to appear on Discovery’s new streaming service Discovery+. Since launching the service earlier this year, Discovery has been swift in securing programming, including the Wrestling docuseries Dark Side of The Ring.
Discovery has had previous ventures into Professional Wrestling as years earlier they briefly broadcast Impact Wrestling, and later ROH, on Destination America. Discovery were even in discussions with WWE about acquiring the rights for the WWE Network when it was being shopped around late last year, however they missed out when Peacock struck a deal with the Wrestling giant.
If MLW were indeed able to secure a partnership with Discovery they have the potential to reach an excess of 96 million viewers through streaming, network and sports subsidiaries. Johnson also alluded to potential for MLW to develop additional shows to Fusion, including something Azteca Underground related.
Furthering speculation around MLW’s future endeavours is a rare appearance for founder and CEO Court Bauer which is being advertised for next week’s Fusion. It’s being teased that he will address the company’s latest broadcast deal in addition to MLW’s working relationship with Dragon Gate.
