Daniel Bryan may have made his last appearance for WWE during last week’s episode of Smackdown.
During the show Bryan was defeated by Roman Reigns in a high stakes Universal Title match where the stipulation in play was that if Bryan were to lose, he would be ‘banished’ from the brand. Bryan has not been seen on any WWE programming this week and the company have quietly moved his profile to the alumni section of their website, which has raised some questions about his future.
It has since been reported by Fightful Select that Bryan’s WWE contract expired last week after the show. They went on to clarify that his contractual situation isn’t reflective of his intent to stay or leave the company as he’s expressed the desire to continue on with WWE doing “unconventional work”.
The news has since been confirmed by Dave Melzter of the Wrestling Observer where he detailed that WWE are “pushing hard for him to sign a new deal”.
Furthering speculation on his future are comments Bryan made during a recent interview with BT Sport. He went on to describe his Wrestlemania 37 experience as really bizarre and weird, even going as far as saying he was detached during the bout. Whether or not his comments were related to him letting his current contract expire are yet be determined.
