Previewing: WrestleRock XXX, Melbourne, April 2

Tomorrow night, Good Friday becomes Great Friday as the most controversial and entertaining alcohol-fuelled wrestling spectacle turns the Dirty 30 with WrestleRock XXX. I wish I could say that I’ve been at every show along the journey; unfortunately, I did lose my way somewhere in the middle, but I was there in the beginning. I’m pumped to be in attendance as they hit the big THREE O on a night that looks to be another evolution of the promotion. Unfortunately, it is sold out; however, it will be available through the most extensive wrestling video library in the Southern Hemisphere, the Australian Wrestling Network.

WrestleRock Championship: Ritchie Taylor vs The Big Sexy Unit

Starting at the top of the card, WrestleRock Champion ‘Smashmouth’ Ritchie Taylor takes on ‘Big Sexy Unit’ Nick Bury in a natural collision of two of the promotion’s top talents. Thanks to COVID, this is Taylor’s first title defence; however, Taylor is always up for the challenge. The challenge is presented in the form of the womanising ‘Big Sexy Unit’ who lost the FWA Women’s Title in his last appearance at WrestleRock. Bury has had a tumultuous relationship with WrestleRock management since failing an STI test; however, there is no denying the fire he brings to the ring every event. For Bury to win, he will need to dig deep into his bum-bag of tricks if he is to overcome the champ’s power, tenacity, and heart. A definite contender for the match of the night.

Avary vs Kellyanne

Two of the biggest names in Australian women’s wrestling look to add another chapter to their rivalry as Avary and Kellyanne go head-to-head. When WrestleRock returned in 2018 after a 3-year hiatus, Melbourne wrestling’s best and toughest ladies were featured, including Avary, Kellyanne and now NXT star Indi Hartwell. At the time, Kellyanne was the veteran with a well-publicised love affair with WrestleRock, and Avary was the popular underdog with only a few wins under her belt, including a victory over Kellyanne. On that night, Avary came out on top, utilising the relaxed rules of WrestleRock and establishing herself as the new Queen of WrestleRock. If history tells us anything, Avary usually has Kellyanne’s number. However, the Fiend Club leader is looking to re-establish herself before she gets to head to ROH. Her eyes are firmly on regaining her spot on the WrestleRock throne, and a brutally successful outing on Good Friday would put her in a position to reclaim the title of Queen of WrestleRock. This is the other contender for the match of the night.

Cletus Blood vs Royce Chambers

In what will be a high-flying affair under the super low ceiling of the Corner Hotel, it’s a battle of the past and the future with Cletus Blood taking on Royce Chambers. The original WrestleRock risk-taker, Cletus, has negotiated the unique challenge of soaring from the turnbuckle and avoiding the ceiling in the Corner; this should give him the edge. However, ‘The Last Airbender’ Royce Chambers is well known for generating his own momentum in the ring, which usually means he doesn’t need the turnbuckles to fly. Ultimately, I guarantee that someone will spill a beer in the crowd as one of these daredevils crashes into a barricade whilst flying from the ring. Blink, and you’ll miss it here – not the time for a toilet break

The Greatest Rivalry Ever Continues: Drunk Uncle Beej vs Lochy Hendricks

Revenge is a dish best served cold – and – a hard-earned thirst needs a big cold beer, and the best cold beer is Vic, Victoria Bitter. I know I’m reading too much into this. Still, it does not bode well for Drunk Uncle Beej that he is holding a VB in his promotion photo when Australian Wrestling Legend ‘Loverboy’ Lochy Hendricks is looking for revenge. Uncle Beej has embarrassed Lochy on many occasions, even forcing him to kiss his ass in front of a pack Corner Hotel. This time it is different. Wielding the power of KrackerJak’s Australian Wrestling Legends contract, ‘Loverboy’ is on a crusade to rid WrestleRock of the drunken embarrassment that is Uncle Beej. When Hendricks gets the win, I fear that Beej will be cut-off from the bar forever.

RB4K vs Mad Dog and Mitch Waterman

WrestleRock spread its promotional wings in the lead up to its thirtieth birthday and made enemies at PCW. Leading to RB4K challenging two former WrestleRock champions, Mad Dog and Mitch Waterman, to a match. The boys in green have a considerable task ahead of them. They will be treated as hostile invaders when they make their WrestleRock debut. Expect Mad Dog and Waterman to show the invaders the door in quick fashion – otherwise, we might have a turf war on our hands.

GORE!!!!! vs Comrade Andrewartha

In the vein of the current blockbuster Kong vs Godzilla, two monsters are scheduled to go to war, with Comrade Andrewartha taking on the ‘Snuff King’ Gore. Gore is probably the one good thing that came out of KrackerJak’s retirement for those not familiar with him, as the ‘Mad Bastard’ spent all his time and energy preparing his baby brother for the ring. Gore has proven to be a dominant individual. He looks to lock horns with the one-man wrecking crew, judo champion and traitor, Comrade Andrewartha. Expect the ring to move as these behemoths collide with only one of them to survive and be worthy of the title, King of Monsters.

Anth Cava (with Skylar Cruiz) vs Charlie Matthews… POSE DOWN CHALLENGE

Finally, just announced is a response to ‘Absolute Excellence’ Anth Cava’s open challenge, with reality TV god Charlie Matthews accepting and inviting Cava to defeat him in a pose off. Now, I don’t know how the WrestleRock crowd are going to take to this one. It is not the kind of action they want to see, and after a not so warm welcome to WrestleRock for Cava and his manager/lover Skylar Cruise, I just hope he gives the crowd what they want and puts Matthews through a table… or ladder… or pane of glass… or cactus… anything sharp really.

It’s Krackerjak’s Birthday… AGAIN!

Finally, the real reason for the party, it is the former Australian Wrestling Legend, KrackerJak’s birthday, and he is due for another breakdown as he is still retired but is now without the status of legend or any of the powers that come with it. Is he still the Sheriff of WrestleRock? Time will tell. Still, I ask everyone in attendance and those of you that watch the replay of this show online to raise a glass to KrackerJak – the man who created the Hardcore Hotel, a mainstay of WrestleRock in the good old days.

Stay tuned to @SnapMayorsMedia on Twitter for results on the night and continue to support Australian Wrestling. Happy Birthday, WrestleRock! Happy Birthday, KrackerJak! And a very happy unbirthday to the rest of you!
